Overview

Chief Technical Officer — is a C-suite executive and key member of Graham Packaging’s leadership team, accountable for shaping and executing the company’s global operational and technical strategy.

 

This role is responsible for driving enterprise-wide transformation by leading, Engineering, Digital Factory, Equipment Operations, Safety, Quality, and Operational Excellence. The successful candidate will integrate engineering and operational rigor with strategic vision, delivering standardized systems and engineering solutions that enable profitable growth, business continuity, sustainability, and competitive advantage.

 

This highly visible position requires an influential leader of leaders who thrives in dynamic, global environments, inspires collaboration, and delivers measurable business impact.

Responsibilities

Enterprise & Strategic Leadership

  • Serve as a trusted strategic partner to the CEO and executive leadership team, shaping the company’s technical, operational, and innovation strategy to support growth, profitability, and sustainability.
  • Lead the development and execution of a comprehensive operational roadmap that integrates quality, EH&S, engineering, continuous improvement, and emerging technologies.
  • Lead the equipment development, technical support, and manufacturing operations based in York, Pennsylvania and Warsaw, Poland.
  • Act as a change catalyst, aligning cross-functional priorities and ensuring seamless collaboration between corporate, regional, and plant leadership.
  • Drive enterprise-wide transformation by embedding a culture of excellence, accountability, and technology advancement.

Leadership & Talent Development

  • Build, lead, and mentor a world-class, high-performing global team across  Engineering, Digital Factory, Equipment Operations, Safety, Quality, and Operational Excellence Teams.
  • Develop the next generation of technical and operational leaders, fostering a culture of innovation, engineering, inclusion, and accountability.
  • Serve as an inspirational enterprise leader, aligning teams across geographies and functions to deliver results

Engineering & Equipment Development

  • Set the strategic direction for equipment innovation and lifecycle management, driving the design, integration, and scaling of next-generation manufacturing systems.
  • Partner with R&D and Operations to ensure equipment and process technologies are aligned with Industry 4.0 objectives and sustainability goals.
  • Oversee the introduction of smart, connected equipment to enhance productivity, agility, and automation across the enterprise.

Quality, EH&S, and Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure the highest standards of product quality and reliability by implementing robust quality management systems and driving proactive defect reduction initiatives.
  • Champion a safety-first culture creating and aligning to a common safety strategy, ensuring global compliance with all EH&S regulations, exceeding local, national, and international standards.
  • Leverage data-driven insights to anticipate, mitigate, and manage operational risk across all facilities.

Innovation & Emerging Technologies

  • Accelerate the adoption of next-generation technologies focused on delivering innovative solutions to Graham’s customers and Graham’s internal operations.
  • Foster innovation in sustainable packaging, advanced materials, and smart equipment design to meet evolving customer and regulatory demands.
  • Establish and nurture strategic partnerships with suppliers, research institutions, and technology providers to gain competitive advantage and enhance innovation pipelines.

Operational Excellence & Standardization

  • Oversee the development and deployment of the Graham Operating System (GOS) to ensure global consistency in operating standards, processes, and policies.
  • Lead enterprise-wide continuous improvement programs designed to improve throughput, quality, and customer responsiveness while reducing cost and waste.
  • Identify, scale, and institutionalize best-in-class practices across the global network.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Operations Management or a related field required.
  • Master’s degree, MBA, or equivalent advanced degree preferred.

Experience

  • 15+ years of progressive senior leadership experience in engineering, operations, and/or R&D, with significant global, multi-site accountability.
  • Demonstrated success leading enterprise-wide transformations in engineering and operational excellence.
  • Experience integrating Industry 4.0 technologies and leveraging digital transformation to improve operational performance.
  • Track record of influencing executive teams and boards while delivering measurable business results.

Compensation Statement

The expected salary range for the position described in this posting is made in accordance with the legal mandates of certain jurisdictions within the United States. The final agreed-upon compensation is based on individual qualifications and experience.

Benefits include medical, dental, vision and basic life insurance. Employees are able to enroll in the company’s 401K Employee Saving Plan and may participate in its Employee Wellness Program. Employees will also receive paid time off in accordance with company policy and state law requirements.
