Overview

The Fleet Manager – Local Transportation is responsible for the daily management and dispatch of local CDL drivers, ensuring efficient and compliant transportation of goods between company locations and customers. This role will coordinate local freight movements, communicate with both internal teams and external partners, and ensure all Department of Transportation (DOT) requirements are met. The ideal candidate brings strong organizational skills, clear communication, and a proactive approach to logistics execution.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Coordinate and dispatch daily local delivery routes, ensuring efficient use of fleet and resources.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for internal teams (warehouse, production, customer service) and external customers regarding local transportation.
  • Monitor driver schedules, hours of service, and ensure compliance with DOT regulations.
  • Maintain up-to-date records for all fleet assets, including inspections, registrations, and maintenance schedules.
  • Partner with drivers to support safe operations, manage time-off schedules, and promote effective communication.
  • Troubleshoot issues related to delivery delays, routing conflicts, and driver availability.
  • Support driver onboarding and orientation in partnership with HR and Safety.
  • Work with the Compliance Manager or Safety team to ensure DQF (Driver Qualification File) readiness and audit preparedness.
  • Assist in managing trailer and equipment logistics across sites, ensuring availability and rotation.
  • Recommend process improvements and efficiencies for local transportation planning.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

 

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Business, or related field preferred.
  • 3+ years of fleet management, dispatch, or transportation coordination experience.
  • Strong working knowledge of DOT and FMCSA regulations.
  • CDL preferred but not required.
  • Experience working with routing or fleet management software (e.g., Samsara, McLeod, Omnitracs).
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to adapt in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to foster strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Compensation Statement

The expected salary range for the position described in this posting is made in accordance with the legal mandates of certain jurisdictions within the United States. The final agreed-upon compensation is based on individual qualifications and experience.
