Overview

The Systems Engineer will play a pivotal role in executing the delivery of IT infrastructure services to the Graham Packaging Company (GPC) enterprise with a focus on the server environment. This role will have shared responsibility for the alignment, implementation, and support of new technologies, ongoing support and remediation of legacy technologies, and various integrations across the GPC IT landscape. The Systems Engineer will report directly to the Manager, Infrastructure Services.

 

A successful candidate for the Systems Engineer role will have prior experience maintaining a hybrid infrastructure environment. They will have a deep understanding of Windows Server and Linux operating systems, networking, and backups in addition to experience at an advanced level with scripting languages such as PowerShell and Bash. They will collaborate with a team of highly skilled engineers and interact with managed service providers both within the IT Infrastructure domain and adjacent technology spaces. Experience with Microsoft Azure is preferred but not required.

 

This is a mid to senior-level technical position, with a primary focus on technical proficiency, though leadership experience is a plus. The candidate should enjoy solving complex technical problems, possess excellent communication and documentation skills, and should be comfortable collaborating with all levels of stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain enterprise-wide solutions for multiple operating systems including Linux (Suse/Red Hat/Ubuntu) and Windows, both on-premises (VMWare/Hyper-V) and in Azure
  • Deploy and maintain standardized Operating Systems on multiple hardware platforms
  • Use vendor specific management tools to support remote hardware platforms
  • Proactively monitor production infrastructure environment to ensure continued availability of the systems and services
  • Provide 3rd level support for the team via the resolution of escalated application, operating system, deployment, and infrastructure hardware issues
  • Document installation and configuration procedures
  • Support and monitor highly available solutions
  • Complete maintenance and support actions for Linux and Microsoft technologies
  • Develop processes to increase efficiency and automate regular maintenance of support actions
  • Identify and resolve problems with the Graham Packaging environment

Qualifications

Education and Work Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or comparable work experience in computer science, Information Technology, or a relevant field
  • 5+ years of experience in a systems administration role focusing on relevant enterprise technologies
  • 5+ years of experience with server configuration, maintenance, and deployment
  • 5+ years of experience focused on Enterprise Monitoring technologies
  • 5+ years of experience with virtualization configuration, support, deployment
  • Strong knowledge of enterprise operating systems administration for Microsoft and Linux technologies
  • Proven track record of being actively sought out by other team members for their technical advice
  • Knowledge of core Infrastructure services and functions (DNS, DHCP, LDAP, DFS, HA & Load balancing, etc.)
  • Proficient with system performance measuring and monitoring
  • Proficient with web servers, web customization, and encryption
  • Proficient with automation through scripting (PowerShell & Bash)
  • Strong understanding of networking infrastructure (LAN, WAN, VPN) and protocols (TCP/IP)
  • Experience in working with formal Patch Management and Change Control Systems
  • Highly motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently
  • Ability to be a team player; flexible, friendly, congenial and enthusiastic, willingness to learn and share information

The standard compensation for this role is $94,600 - 141,900. Salary offers will be determined based on final candidate
qualifications, experience, skillset, and other relevant factors

Compensation Statement

The expected salary range for the position described in this posting is made in accordance with the legal mandates of certain jurisdictions within the United States. The final agreed-upon compensation is based on individual qualifications and experience.
