Overview

Graham Packaging Company is looking for a Maintenance Technician 1 (Parts) based in Rockwall, TX. This opening is for Day Shift, which typically operates from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. 

 

This position will operate primarily in a Parts Clerk capacity, with responsibility for the purchasing, receiving, organization, inventory control, and availability of maintenance, repair, and operating (MRO) supplies and parts needed to support plant operations.

As a Maintenance Technician 1, the position may also provide maintenance support based on plant needs and within the employee’s demonstrated training, experience, and qualifications. This may include assisting with preventive and reactive maintenance, equipment changeovers, parts repair and rebuilding, and other maintenance-related activities if/as needed.

 

The primary focus of this position is ownership and execution of the plant’s parts and MRO function.

Responsibilities

 

  • Purchase maintenance, repair, and operating (MRO) supplies in accordance with established purchasing procedures and approval requirements.
  • Maintain ownership, organization, and appropriate inventory levels of the lineside cabinet, including timely replenishment of supplies.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with approved suppliers.
  • Identify cost-reduction opportunities through alternative suppliers while maintaining required quality, availability, and service standards.
  • Receive and process all incoming shipments by the close of each business day, ensuring materials are accurately entered into inventory and placed in designated storage locations.
  • Consistently follow all established purchasing, receiving, inventory, and documentation procedures.
  • Maintain the parts room, document room, and assigned storage areas in accordance with established housekeeping and organizational standards.
  • Maintain and replenish the Grainger employee supplies vending machine between scheduled vendor restocking visits.
  • Partner with plant leadership to monitor and maintain appropriate inventory levels of packaging supplies.
  • Maintain current and accurate records of specialty items used for production equipment and packaging supplies.
  • Maintain a current and accurate approved vendor list.
  • Partner with the Controller on assigned administrative and compliance-related tasks, including maintenance of SDS records and related documentation.
  • Manage and issue all GOS materials and maintain established inventory levels within the GOS room.
  • Maintain accurate inventory minimum and maximum levels and perform required cycle counts.
  • Maintain accurate records and files using Excel, Word, SAP, and other applicable systems.
  • Review spending tracker data daily to monitor expenditures against established spending limits and identify potential concerns.
  • Run open purchase order reports and follow up with vendors regarding outstanding documentation, invoices, deliveries, and other unresolved items.
  • Create, revise, and maintain purchase orders using the automated purchase order system.
  • Maintain current forklift certification and safely operate powered industrial equipment as required.
  • Assist with equipment changeovers and preventive maintenance activities as needed.
  • Rebuild and repair maintenance parts and components, within demonstrated training and qualifications, to support equipment reliability and plant operations.
  • Provide hands-on maintenance support as needed based on plant operational requirements and within demonstrated training, experience, and qualifications.

The following duties may be required on a limited basis on plant needs and within the employee’s demonstrated training, experience, and qualifications:

      • Diagnose equipment problems and replace, repair, test, or adjust parts and components as needed.
      • Assist with emergency and unscheduled repairs of production equipment during operation and scheduled maintenance repairs during machine service.
      • Perform preventive maintenance on production machinery, equipment, and plant facilities.
      • Perform mechanical maintenance and troubleshooting activities, including mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic work, when qualified to do so.
      • Read and interpret equipment manuals, technical documentation, and work orders to perform assigned maintenance and service activities.
      • Perform basic machinist tasks within demonstrated training and qualifications.
      • Safely use hand tools, power tools, electrical meters, and material-handling equipment in the performance of assigned duties.
      • Identify and report faulty equipment operation, defective materials, safety concerns, and unusual conditions to appropriate supervision.
      • Assist with training production employees on the proper operation and basic maintenance of machinery, when qualified and authorized to do so.
      • Participate in limited out-of-state travel for training, as required.

Qualifications

  • Two year Associate Degree in Industrial Maintenance or related field is preferred.
  • A minimum of five years Industrial Maintenance Technician experience is preferred.
  • Maintenance Technicians are required to interact with managers, employees, vendors, and customers. Therefore, the following skills and proficiencies are also essential requirements of the position.
    • Ability to maintain regular, predictable, and punctual attendance.
    • Computer usage and typing skills are essential.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication, including the ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers.
    • Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service.
    • Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices.
    • Communicates effectively: conveys facts and information clearly both verbally and orally.
    • Collaborates well with others: proactively contributes to group objectives; volunteers to help others.

Compensation Statement

The expected salary range for the position described in this posting is made in accordance with the legal mandates of certain jurisdictions within the United States. The final agreed-upon compensation is based on individual qualifications and experience.
