Overview

Graham Packaging Company is hiring a Blow Mold Mechanic– Machine Operator based in Maryland Heights.  This opening is for NIGHT shift, which operates between the hours of 7:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.  Must be able to train on days for at least 8 weeks and must be able to work days or nights.

 

Pay: Up to $33.78/hr, additional pay increase after 6months and 12months.

Additional $1.00 for night shift differential.

The Blow Mold Mechanic is responsible for operating a given number of plastic blow molding machines (including in-line equipment), and makes necessary adjustments or minor repairs to ensure production of containers is made in a safe, efficient and high quality manner.

 

The primary duties of an Bold Mold Mechanic include: 

  • Understands, follows and enforces all established policies, procedures and recognized practices.
  • Make frequent on time quality checks on products being produced from established quality standards.
  • Participate in continuous quality improvement projects and other related activities as assigned.
  • Responsible for product quality, making frequent on time quality checks on products being produced from established quality standards, identifying and making necessary changes and adjustments.

  • Perform process set up and establish set up sheets of blow molding machines to improve machine efficiency and reduce scrap in an accurate and timely manner Understands, follows and enforces all established safety, health, quality GMP and Company policies, procedures and recognized practices.
  • Operate and maintain/assist with maintaining a group of plastic blow molding and auxiliary equipment at identified optimal performance, including mold insert and color changes, producing containers in a safe and high quality method while minimizing and reducing scrap.
  • Operate equipment to minimize the generation and maximize the consumption of regrind, purge and scrap within customer specifications where applicable.
  • Perform trial runs on all new molds, tooling, resins, and color concentrates.
  • Perform regular preventative maintenance checks on all equipment, including lubrication and checks of all equipment and systems in accordance with preventative maintenance schedules, completing and maintaining all required documentation and escalating issues as necessary.
  • Perform minor troubleshooting and programming on the line. Notify leads and supervisors of any major problems or questions.
  • Perform minor repair on all production equipment such as trimmers, blow molder extruder, conveyor systems and material loading and unloading as required.
  • Perform all tasks with minimal supervision, in a prompt, safe, and efficient, manner including replacement of fasteners, guards, valves, cylinders and safe ties.
  • Monitor HDPE/PET resin (if applicable), dryer, material handling and color systems for appropriate processing conditions.
  • Maintain work area to acceptable safety and housekeeping standards.
  • Verify material usage per standards
  • Properly identify regrind and chunk produced.
  • Complete and file all required documentation in an orderly and timely manner.
  • Communicate with the Production Shift Supervisor to coordinate production line support staff in accomplishing the lines’ objectives.
  • Communicate processing information to designated personnel on incoming shift. Assist other Operators as needed.
  • Assist in the training of new Operators.
  • Limited travel may be required

Qualifications

Job Qualifications: 

  • A minimum of 2 years consecutive experience in manufacturing required.
  • 3-4 years prior experience operating or maintaining blow molding or similar equipment (In lieu of related degree/diploma).
  • Direct experience with Blow Molding preferred on any platform. Working knowledge of HDPE and/or PET preferred
  • Operators are required to interact with managers, employees, vendors, and customers. Therefore, the following skills and proficiencies are also essential requirements of the position.
    • Ability to maintain regular, predictable, and punctual attendance.
    • Computer usage and typing skills are essential.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication, including the ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers.
    • Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service.
    • Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices.
    • Communicates effectively: conveys facts and information clearly both verbally and orally.
